There is a trend in veterinary medicine toward the integrative treatment of cancer. The use of an integrative approach to cancer has clinically been shown to promote remission, prolong survival time, provide a high quality of life and produce fewer adverse effects than the use of conventional cancer treatments alone. In some cases it has been clinically shown to resolve the cancer completely. The use of Chinese medicine alone or in combination with chemotherapy and radiation to treat pets with cancer has been steadily increasing over the last decade. This course is intended as an introduction to the integrative treatment of cancer with Chinese medicine to treat the most common cancers seen in veterinary medicine.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Understand why an integrative approach to cancer works.
Learn the TCVM pathophysiology of cancer development and the five TCVM cancer treatment principles.
Learn what common veterinary cancers can be treated with Chinese medicine alone or in combination with conventional therapies.
Know the applications of Chinese herbal formulas used to treat cancers singly or in combination, and their recommended dosage.
