In ancient China, the imperial physicians believed that recuperating one’s health from disease depended mainly on 70% of rest and 30% of treatment. This principle is viewed as the key elements to anti-aging and longevity even until nowadays. In this class, Dr. Alex Chen will share his knowledge of how to preserve your health by applying this principle of “70% of rest and 30% of treatment”. He will first focus on the differences/similarities on health preservation between western and Chinese medicine aspects followed by a discussion of how the natural methods of food intake, exercise, herbal formula and acupuncture can keep one in good health. In addition, the classic books such as Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon), Shang Han Lun (Discussion of Cold-Induced Disorders), and Jin Gui Yao Lue (Synopsis of Golden Chamber) will be discussed in class. Finally, Dr. Chen will go over the 12 time periods of the day in regards to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Understand the differences and similarities on health preservation and treatments between western medicine and Chinese medicine.
