COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Many acupuncturists learned to take height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, etc. in school and then never use these measurements in practice, thinking that they aren't part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Actually, these standard measurements of Western Medicine are a wonderful window into the intricacies of health and disease that we treat every day as acupuncturists.

Join Dr. David Wells, a chiropractor and acupuncturist with over 30 years of clinical experience, as he shares the importance of taking vital signs for each patient, and how the information gleaned from these “Western” examinations can apply to our traditional style of treatment.

In addition to the common vital signs, Dr. Wells will expand into girth measurements and how it can be used with height and weight to determine disease risk; and the 3 positions of taking blood pressure. Dr. Wells will also cover examinations of the head, neck, skin, hair, and nails, and what different findings indicate. Lastly, Dr Wells will go over what are potential “red flags” that require referrals in an acupuncture practice.

BONUS MATERIAL: Dr. Wells will be sharing his Wells’ Embryological Theory of Acupoint Location for targeting pain conditions using distal acupuncture needling.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Be comfortable with the intake protocols of basic Western examination.
  • Understand how the findings relate to metabolism, disease risk and the subtle issues of health and wellness that we treat as acupuncturists.
  • Identify Red Flag conditions and how to appropriately refer patients for the best care.
