COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course offers a comprehensive, trimester-by-trimester guide to supporting pregnancy and early postpartum care with acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Practitioners will gain practical, clinically grounded tools to support pregnant patients through each stage — from common first trimester concerns all the way through preparation for birth and into the postpartum period.

A significant portion of the course is dedicated to nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, examined through five TCM differential diagnosis patterns: Spleen & Stomach Deficiency, Liver Qi Stagnation Invading the Stomach, Phlegm-Damp Obstructing the Middle Jiao, Stomach Heat/Liver Fire Harassing the Stomach, and Kidney Deficiency — with targeted treatment approaches for each. The course also covers treatment for subchorionic hematoma and bleeding, management of threatened miscarriage (slippery fetus), and herbal recommendations, modifications, and contraindications specific to pregnancy.

Beyond the clinical protocols, this course equips practitioners with practical tools to prepare patients for physiologic birth and support resilience when medical intervention becomes necessary. Mindful approaches to postpartum care are woven throughout, including tools to support the breastfeeding and chestfeeding relationship. Safety considerations, red flags, and guidelines for collaborating with birth providers are addressed at every stage, alongside self-care practices for both practitioner and patient.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Apply TCM differential diagnosis and acupuncture protocols to address common pregnancy concerns across all three trimesters and the early postpartum period, including nausea and vomiting, subchorionic hematoma, bleeding, and threatened miscarriage.
  • Identify and prescribe appropriate herbal recommendations and modifications while recognizing herbs to avoid during pregnancy.
  • Recognize red flags and safety considerations at each stage of pregnancy and determine when referral or collaboration with birth providers is necessary.
