COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course shifts the focus to the Lower Pole—the hip, knee, ankle, and foot—providing a practical overview of orthopedic assessment for the lower body. Participants will review normal movement patterns, primary muscle groups, and common injuries affecting the hip, knee, ankle, and foot. The course also introduces TCM pain patterns, a systematic lower pole assessment sequence, functional and special orthopedic tests, treatment planning concepts, acupuncture strategies, and commonly used acupoints. A live assessment demonstration ties these concepts together, giving practitioners a clear framework for evaluating lower body conditions in clinical practice.
Designed as an accessible review with practical clinical insights, this course bridges foundational orthopedic assessment with Traditional Chinese Medicine principles. Participants will gain a structured approach to assessing common musculoskeletal complaints, selecting appropriate acupuncture strategies, and integrating orthopedic findings into everyday clinical decision-making. By combining modern orthopedic concepts with classical Chinese Medicine, practitioners will strengthen their ability to evaluate and manage lower body pain with greater confidence and clarity.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Review the primary muscles, ligaments, and bony structures involved in common hip, knee, ankle, and foot conditions.
Perform a systematic lower body assessment using functional movement observations and common orthopedic tests.
Select appropriate acupuncture strategies and acupoints based on orthopedic and TCM findings.
Apply a practical framework for assessing and treating common lower body musculoskeletal complaints.
