Shoulders have the greatest range of motion. As such, they are prone to mechanical injuries such as sprains, bursitis, tendonitis, and muscular imbalance. Hips are similar to shoulders with the exception that they have a much tighter ball and socket that prevents most sprains. Hips are more likely to suffer from repetitive motion issues such as bursitis and arthritic degeneration because they bear more weight and bear it much more of the time. The structures of both joints are very similar and indeed, we can needle one to treat the other. The purpose of this course is to help practitioners become comfortable with diagnosing and treating both shoulders and hips using acupuncture, joint mobilization, deep tissue massage, taping and therapeutic exercise.

Dr. David Wells, with dual degrees in chiropractic and acupuncture, shares his 30 years of orthopedic experience in this course to advance the clinical skills of practitioners to diagnose and treat shoulder and hip disorders such as impingement syndrome, sub-acromial bursitis, supraspinatus tendonitis, rotator cuff sprain, labral tear, dislocations, adhesive capsulitis, greater trochanteric bursitits, piriformis syndrome, malum coax senilis, and related pain syndromes using biomedical testing (orthopedic, neurological, laboratory, imaging and physical exam techniques), and nutrition.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Understand the functional anatomy of both the hip and the shoulder.
  • Learn history and examination techniques to quickly diagnose hip and shoulder conditions.
  • Learn how to treat acute and chronic conditions with acupuncture, joint mobilization, deep tissue massage, taping and therapeutic exercise.
