COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Peter Kington is an experienced Chinese medicine practitioner in Brisbane, Australia with a special interest in Chinese reproductive medicine and fertility. This course explores the major issues and pathology associated with the menstrual cycle. The class begins with a detailed biomedical study of the female reproductive physiology from a Western medical perspective and then from a TCM perspective. The second half focuses on biomedical assessment and testing, TCM assessment and testing, and conditions that upset the natural reproductive physiology such as hypothalamic disruption, hyperprolactinaemia, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and fibroids.

The following content will be covered in Part I of this course:

  • Deep exploration and understanding of the Western-biomedical physiology and anatomy of menstruation
  • Deep exploration and understanding of menstruation and the concept of ‘special women’s physiology’ from an east Asian perspective
  • Consideration of acupuncture approaches including the Chong, Ren, Du and Dai extraordinary vessels, point classification and five element approaches as applied by the presenter in his practice
  • An integrative model of understanding of menstruation to provide practitioner-participants with a model of understanding to guide towards and underpin diagnosis and treatment options
  • Lines of enquiry, observation and analysis of the menstrual cycle to identify pathology, develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the menstrual cycle from a biomedical and TCM perspective
  • Understand how to inquire, observe, and analyze the menstrual cycle to identify pathology
  • Develop and apply treatment principles to rectify pathology associated with the menstrual cycle
