Laboratory Test Results and Chinese Herbal Medicine

Understanding laboratory results is an essential function of a primary care practitioner. It is even more important as an acupuncturist to be able to take lab results and translate them into a TCM differential diagnosis. Moreover, lab results are objective measures for patients to see improvements in health from their TCM treatments. Dr. Matt Van Benschoten has over 28 years of clinical, research, and teaching experience. He reviews in this course common laboratory tests and their relationship to the pharmacology of Chinese herbal medicine. Blood tests, urinalysis, stool tests, and CT results will be discussed from the viewpoint of Western medical diagnostic labels and their TCM counterparts. Clinical cases will be presented that illustrate the application of specific herbs for abnormal lab results, based on the most current pharmacological data from the biomedical literature.
