Niao Zhuo is defined as turbid urine without the burning or pain during urination. Turbid urine that is milky is also called bai zhuo. Urine that is initially clear but sediments seem to appear turbid after some time is also considered turbid urine.

This is distinct from painful urination or painful urination associated with turbid urine, in which the primary focus is on burning, painful urination caused by an acute infection or inflammation. Simply turbid urine patients do not experience painful urination or may only have a slight hot sensation and very mild pain.
