COURSE TYPE:
Distance Learning CEU Video (Online)
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
De Qi is often reduced to a simple needle sensation, but in the Huangdi Neijing it is presented as a far more dynamic principle that influences the outcome of every treatment. In this class, Henry McCann reframes De Qi beyond sensation and guides practitioners to understand it as a functional interaction between practitioner, patient, and technique.
We begin by examining a fundamental question: what is De Qi? Drawing from the Neijing and the Nanjing, this course explores classical definitions while also tracing early influences from Yangsheng literature. The Five Faults of the Physician are introduced as a practical framework, highlighting how awareness, adaptability, and clinical presence directly affect treatment results.
Building on this foundation, the course moves into application. You will learn Dao Ma needling, rooted in the tradition of Ma Dan Yang, as a method for enhancing therapeutic effect through precise needle use. Different Dao Ma configurations and point combinations, including Tung style strategies, are presented as practical tools that can be applied immediately in clinic.
The course also introduces the concept of gong fu in medicine. This includes strengthening core skills such as channel theory and point indications, while developing flexibility in clinical thinking and patient interaction. Emphasis is placed on translating foundational knowledge into real world clinical effectiveness.
By combining classical theory with practical methods, this course supports practitioners in refining technique, improving outcomes, and bringing greater precision to their treatments.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Explain the concept of De Qi as described in the Huangdi Neijing and distinguish it from the common interpretation of needle sensation.
Understand the principles of Dao Ma needling and how different needle configurations can enhance therapeutic effectiveness.
Apply point combination strategies from Tung’s acupuncture system to improve clinical outcomes and treatment precision.
Evaluate the Five Faults of the Physician and their impact on clinical effectiveness.
Develop clinical skill by strengthening foundational knowledge and improving adaptability in patient care.
