COURSE TYPE:
Distance Learning CEU Video (Online)
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course explores the underlying brain chemistry that drives mood imbalances, food cravings, and compulsive behaviors, including disordered eating. Participants will gain a working understanding of the key neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation, including serotonin, catecholamines, GABA, and endorphins, alongside the nutritional and gut health foundations that support or undermine brain function.
Day 1 covers the brain chemistry common to all mood, craving, and compulsive presentations, then moves into Western medicine classifications and treatments for depression, anxiety, OCD, and bipolar disorder, including subclinical presentations often missed in standard care. Participants will learn integrative treatment strategies combining targeted supplementation with nervous system techniques such as tapping, meditation, light therapy, and circadian rhythm management. The course also addresses supplement drug interactions, appropriate referrals, Chinese herbs for mood balance, and nutritional strategies to restore proper nutrient absorption for optimal brain function.
Taught by Dr. Peter Shark, an experienced practitioner with over fifteen years of expertise treating complex and chronic illness using Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Functional Medicine, and Nutrition. Dr. Shark creates individualized treatment plans combining customized herbs, targeted supplements, and lifestyle modifications, and through his telemedicine clinic, Shark Holistic Health, has helped patients across the US restore health, reduce symptoms, and improve quality of life.
This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Part 2 covers assessment of nutritional deficiencies related to mood, craving, and compulsive issues.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Set up a practice framework that supports complex patients presenting with mood disorders, subclinical symptoms, and compulsive behaviors, while navigating conventional treatment plans safely and effectively.
Build a strong clinical foundation in neurotransmitter biology, gut health, inflammation, and basic nutrition, understanding how deficiencies in serotonin, catecholamines, GABA, and endorphins contribute to mood dysregulation, and which targeted supplements address each.
Develop integrative treatment strategies for depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder that combine supplement protocols with nervous system techniques including tapping, meditation, light therapy, and circadian rhythm management.
Identify condition-specific contraindications, recognize supplement drug interaction risks, and apply safe clinical decision-making through real patient case studies.
