COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course explores the underlying brain chemistry that drives mood imbalances, food cravings, and compulsive behaviors, including disordered eating. Participants will learn how to assess patients for these imbalances, identify the most effective natural supplements and herbs, and determine when additional psychological or medical support is necessary. Day 1 focuses on brain chemistry related to all mood, craving, and compulsive issues, alongside Western medicine treatments for anxiety, depression, OCD, and bipolar disorder. The course also addresses supplement–drug interactions, appropriate referrals, herbs for mood balance, and nutritional strategies to restore proper nutrient absorption and support optimal brain function.

Participants will gain practical skills in improving patient compliance with dietary and treatment plans, supporting recovery from compulsive behaviors safely, understanding the biochemistry driving compulsive patterns, and recognizing when psychological or medical referral is indicated. This is Part 1 of a two-part series, with Part 2 covering the assessment of nutritional deficiencies related to mood, craving, and compulsive issues.

This course is taught by Dr. Peter Shark, an experienced practitioner with over fifteen years of expertise treating thousands of patients using Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Functional Medicine, and Nutrition. Dr. Shark specializes in treating complex and chronic illnesses, creating individualized treatment plans that combine customized herbs, targeted supplements, and lifestyle modifications. Through his telemedicine clinic, Shark Holistic Health, Dr. Shark has helped patients across the US restore health, reduce symptoms, and improve quality of life.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Enhance patient compliance with dietary recommendations and individualized treatment plans.
  • Support patients in managing mood, cravings, and recovery from compulsive behaviors while safely navigating supplement-drug interactions and avoiding interference with conventional treatments.
  • Identify risks when treating patients with disordered eating to ensure safe and effective care.
  • Recognize when psychological or medical referrals are appropriate to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Understand the underlying biochemistry that drives compulsive behaviors and mood imbalances.
