COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Laboratory testing offers a valuable window into the body’s inner workings, yet its role in integrative practice extends beyond identifying abnormalities. This course explores how to interpret lab results not only from a biomedical perspective but also through the principles of Chinese Medicine. Participants will examine how body chemistry—pH, proteins, fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, and hormones—reflects the dynamic interrelationships among the organ systems.
With a focus on understanding and integration, this course discusses when and why to order labs, how results reveal patterns of function and imbalance, and how these findings can be understood in relation to TCM concepts of qi, blood, yin, yang, and the zang-fu. Students will gain a broader perspective on defining optimal health by integrating lab values with physical exam findings and traditional diagnostic frameworks.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Describe the purpose of common laboratory tests and the clinical contexts in which they may be ordered.
Interpret lab findings in relation to body chemistry and organ interrelationships.
Explore how TCM theory can be applied to understand laboratory results and patterns of imbalance.
Discuss how lab interpretation, alongside Chinese Medicine diagnostics, may contribute to defining and supporting optimal health.
