COURSE DESCRIPTION:
As the use of pharmaceuticals continues to rise, TCM practitioners are often faced with patients who take multiple prescriptions for chronic conditions. This course explores the top 100 most commonly prescribed drugs and provides safe, effective herbal alternatives where appropriate. Practitioners will gain insight into the pros and cons of both drugs and herbs, empowering them to achieve maximum therapeutic benefit while minimizing or eliminating side effects.
Taught by **Dr. John Chen**, a recognized authority in both Western pharmacology and Chinese herbal medicine, this course bridges the gap between modern drug therapy and traditional herbal approaches. Dr. Chen’s extensive teaching experience at leading institutions and his published works, *Chinese Medical Herbology and Pharmacology* and *Chinese Herbal Formulas and Applications,* make him uniquely qualified to guide practitioners in understanding drug-herb interactions, selecting effective herbal substitutes, and improving patient outcomes through integrative care.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Understand the mechanisms, benefits, and side effects of the 100 most commonly prescribed drugs.
Identify appropriate herbal alternatives and strategies to achieve comparable or improved therapeutic outcomes.
Recognize potential drug-herb interactions and ensure safe, integrative treatment planning.
Confidently counsel patients on the use of herbs alongside or in place of pharmaceuticals for safer, more holistic care.
