COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Pain walks into every clinic. The question is - how prepared are you to treat it efficiently, confidently, and with results your patients can feel immediately?
In this dynamic and clinically focused training, Dr. Whisnant brings the power of Master Tung’s acupuncture into the world of modern sports medicine. This course is designed for practitioners of all levels who want structured, reliable treatment strategies they can apply the very next day in clinic.
The class begins with a clear and accessible refresher on the foundations of Master Tung acupuncture and the Balance Method, making it ideal for those newer to the system while sharpening the precision of experienced practitioners. From there, Dr. Whisnant walks you step-by-step through 10 essential sports medicine treatment protocols that address some of the most common pain presentations seen in practice.
You will learn practical treatment strategies for general body pain and stiffness, low back pain, cervical and upper neck conditions, knee pain, hip and groin injuries, facial and head pain, shoulder dysfunction, ankle and wrist injuries, elbow pain, and chronic tightness in the upper trapezius and neck. Each protocol is presented with clear point location, clinical reasoning, and application strategies that bridge classical Tung principles with contemporary understanding of musculoskeletal injury and recovery.
Beyond needling techniques, this course also teaches you how to communicate effectively with patients - how to set expectations, understand the true nature of their complaint, and build trust so that treatment outcomes improve. Because great results are not only about points - they are about clarity, structure, and connection.
Dr. Whisnant, licensed acupuncturist and certified medicinal herbalist, trained at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and later earned his DAOM from Emperor’s College. A dedicated student of Dr. Jimmy Chang, Dr. Richard Tan, and the Master Tung lineage, he integrates 3,000 years of Chinese medicine with modern research and sports medicine principles. With international clinical training, extensive experience treating Western disease processes, and years in private practice in St. Helens, Oregon, he brings both depth and practicality to every lesson. His work extends beyond the clinic through nonprofit medical service domestically and abroad.
Whether you are building confidence with Master Tung’s system or refining advanced clinical skills, this course will elevate the way you diagnose, treat, and communicate in your clinic. This is not theory - this is clinical strategy. If you are ready to level up your results, this training will give you the structure and precision to do it.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Apply foundational Master Tung principles and the Balance Method within a sports medicine framework.
Implement structured treatment protocols for 10 common musculoskeletal pain presentations, including spine, joint, and soft tissue injuries.
Improve precision in point location and strengthen clinical reasoning for both acute and chronic athletic conditions.
Integrate classical Tung concepts with modern understanding of injury recovery and performance optimization.
Communicate more effectively with patients by setting clear expectations, understanding their goals, and building stronger therapeutic relationships.
