COURSE DESCRIPTION:
For TCM not only to survive, but to prosper, we need to understand the strength and weakness of TCM versus contemporary Western Medicine (WM). TCM should be used to complement WM since TCM actually outperforms WM as far as cost, effectiveness and side effects in many areas.

In this course, Dr. Peter Sheng, a MD specializing in the field of oncology will summarize the deficiencies of western medical practice, especially in its handling of cancer and how TCM can improve the quality of life. He will cover the following important topics from WM perspective:

  • What causes cancer?
  • What are the most common types of cancer?
  • Can vaccines prevent cancer?
  • Do biopsies or surgeries cause cancer to spread?
  • Are the exams to determine the cancer safe?
  • Are the statistics and clinical trials trustworthy to believe?
  • What are side effects of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation?
  • When is treatment not necessary? Is cancer treatment worse than cancer?
  • What are the treatment success rate and survival statistics?
  • What are the TCM options? Can acupuncture and herbs be administered while patients are undergoing WM treatments?
  • Are there other natural supplements or dietary changes that can help?

This course is based on Dr. Sheng's 30+ years of clinical experience in private practice in both TCM and WM, and in the past 10 years, a part-time academic career as a volunteer clinical professor in Hematology-Oncology at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. If time permits, Dr. Sheng will discuss other chronic diseases and the pros and cons of WM vs. TCM.
