Supporting patients in grief has always been a large part of Dr. Melissa Monroe’s practice, but her understanding of grief became far more personal after she lost her 2-year-old daughter to Sudden Unexpected Death in Children in August of 2013. Since that time, Melissa has blogged about her healing process, founded an annual memorial concert called Agastock to benefit a local sliding-scale counseling center, accepted public speaking engagements about grief and healing, and continues to see grief patients each week in her Los Angeles clinic.

Through personal experience, Dr. Monroe brings you a course close to her heart on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): what it is, what it looks like, how to support patients going through it, and TCM treatment protocols. The continuation of this course is on Supporting Grief with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can manifest after a trauma of any kind. According to the US Department of Veteran Affairs, about 60% of men and 50% women will experience at least one trauma in their lifetime, and approximately 7-8% of the population will develop PTSD during their lifetime. Each year, 8 million adults develop PTSD, and many more people that display symptoms of PTSD are unaware that they may have PTSD.

In this course, Dr. Melissa Monroe will discuss the origins and manifestations of PTSD, triggers and their effects, and reunifying the mind-body connection with TCM. Learn the TCM diagnoses, acupuncture and herbal treatment options, and lifestyle recommendations for PTSD.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Have a deeper understanding of PTSD, its origins, manifestations, and response to various treatment modalities.
  • Understand PTSD as it relates to potential TCM pattern differentiations.
  • Learn acupuncture and herbal treatment strategies for PTSD.
  • Be better able to support PTSD patients thorough empathetic, active listening, as well as lifestyle recommendations that help manage the symptoms of PTSD.
