COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is presented in an English voiceover with English subtitles.

Dr. Chien-Fu Liao comes from a family of traditional Chinese herbalists. His childhood was spent watching his grandfather, a highly-skilled and renowned herbalist, treat patients and learning how to pick, cut, and process Chinese herbs into pills. Dr. Liao has over 15 years of experience treating patients in Taiwan and is most renowned for treating unusual and difficult conditions. He currently treats 150 patients daily (mostly using herbs) with the help of his practitioners and interns.

In Part I and Part II of this series, Dr. Liao shares supportive treatment protocols for cancer patients using TCM modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition. Participants will learn:

  • Western and TCM definitions of cancer
  • Western and TCM pathology and differential diagnosis of cancer
  • Western and TCM application in cancer
  • Comprehensive TCM treatments (herbal dishes, qi gong, acupuncture, massage, external applications of herbs, emotional/Shen treatments, lifestyle instructions)
  • Commonly used Chinese herbal formulas prior to surgery
  • Commonly used herbal formulas post-surgery recovery
  • Chinese herbs to address the side effects of radiation
  • Chinese herbs to address the side effects of chemotherapy

In addition, Dr. Liao, who is also a nutritionist, will spend some time focusing on food therapy relating to cancer. Participants will learn what foods should be consumed or avoided to reduce the chances of cancer, food therapy and lifestyle recommendations for oncology patients before and after their surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation, and food therapy recommendations for the different stages of cancer. Lastly, Dr. Liao shares his most controversial and effective discovery of why tonics and blood movers need to be used, despite popular opinion that it may increase chance of spreading cancer in the body.
