Auricular Medicine is a unique art of therapy because of its unique characteristics, such as simplicity and painlessness. In this first series, Dr. Li-Chun Huang, the world’s leading expert in Auricular Medicine and author of Auricular Medicine and Auricular Diagnosis with Color Photos, gives a thorough introduction to Auricular Medicine. The objective of this course is to let students have a good understanding about the fundamentals of Auricular Medicine.

First, Dr. Huang will introduce the history of Auricular Medicine. It is important for students to learn the history to be able to have a better understanding about the relationships between Auricular Medicine and other medicines, especially TCM.

Secondly, the differences between Auricular Medicine and other auricular therapies, such as TCM and French Auricular Therapy will be covered.

Finally, Dr. Huang will introduce the diagnosis and treatment methods of Auricular Medicine. However, only the basics of these methods will be discussed due to the time limitation. Students will be able to learn the general applications of Auricular Medicine, such as relieving pain, vertigo, etc.

Topics covered include:

  • History and Development of Auricular Medicine (Ear Acupuncture, Auricular Therapy, Auricular Medicine)
  • Differences between of Auricular Medicine and French Auricular Therapy
  • Visual Diagnosis of the Earlobe - focusing on the Heart organ area of the ear (what is normal vs abnormal, cardiovascular disorders, and how conditions manifest in the ear.
  • Reproductive disorders that manifest in the ear such as uterine fibroid, endometriosis, cervicitis, and PID.
  • Lower body conditions that manifest in the ear such as sciatica, hip pain, knee pain, ankle pain, heel pain, and any history of injury.
  • Auricular signs for longevity, intelligence, headaches, dizziness and vertigo, sleep and dream disturbance (neurasthenia), anxiety, and depression
  • Auricular point prescriptions for improving fatigue, controlling cravings, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, tinnitus/hearing loss, improving vision (myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia) periodontitits, TMJ, stuffy nose, high blood pressure, and oncology-related symptoms
