COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Mental and emotional health is a major concern in the practice of medicine, including the practice of East Asian Medicine. While many acupuncturists associate Tung's acupuncture with pain management, all acupuncture systems are equally capable of treating mental and emotional complaints.

This course will begin with an explanation of core theories that underlie Tung's acupuncture and then continue with a description of the most essential Tung points for the treatment of mental and emotional health concerns. We will then explore points and strategies for commonly seen complaints, discuss mental wellness in East Asian Medicine, and explore different methods of non-acupuncture based management of psychological complaints, including the Japanese practices of Naikan and Morita Therapy. Finally we will discuss Qi deviation in Qigong practice and its clinical management.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Know the basic theories of Tung’s acupuncture
  • Know the location and indications of key Tung points for mental and emotional health
  • Know clinical point selection and strategies for mental and emotional disorders
  • Understand the basic theories of Morita Therapy and Naikan
  • Understand the background and management of Qi Deviation syndromes, including proper psychiatric referral
