COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Prolo-acupuncture is known to be called the “missing link” because it addresses deeper tissues and various structures beyond the reach of many traditional acupuncture and myofascial trigger point needling techniques. Prolo-acupuncture goes directly to injured tendons, ligaments, and joints to functionally “re-link” muscle-to-bone and bone-to-bone connections.

With a name derived from Prolotherapy, where an injection directly into the injured joint can stimulate the body’s self-repairing mechanism to be activated, Prolo-acupuncture utilizes a similar theory and approach, but without the injection.

Prolo-acupuncture can play an important role in the rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries and pain syndromes, particularly where recurrent muscle strains and tendonitis are secondary to underlying joint dysfunction and hypermobility.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Know and describe the functional/clinical anatomy, patho-anatomy of the main and commonly-injured joints of the body, in AOM and standard contemporary medical terms
  • Know and describe common etiologies and prognoses for common injuries and pain of the major joints of the body, in AOM and standard contemporary medical terms
  • Take histories for common injuries and pain of the major joints of the body
  • Perform a physical examination for common injuries and pain of the major joints of the body, including observation, inspection, palpation and special orthopedic tests for joint range-of-motion, tracking and stability
  • Identify red flags for serious/urgent joint injuries and pain that warrant referral to physician care
  • Be able to treat common joint injuries pain with acupuncture, including neuro-anatomical acupuncture (“dry/trigger point”) needling, and 7-star needling
